![]() The track changed names yet again in 2010, this time to its current name, Parx Racing and Casino. In 1990, the track was acquired by Greenwood Racing, Inc., a company founded by British bookmakers Bob Green and Bill Hogwood, who later partnered with Penn National Gaming and expanded into New Jersey. When the track was purchased ten years later, its name was changed to Philadelphia Park, and a new turf course was installed. ![]() History: Originally called Keystone Racetrack, a nod to its home state’s nickname, Parx Racing first opened in November 1974 in Bensalem, PA. James Penny Memorial, along with a bevy of stakes for Pennsylvania-breds. Parx offers many other stakes races throughout the year, including the Grade 2 Gallant Bob, Grade 3 Smarty Jones, Grade 3 Turf Monster, Grade 3 Greenwood Cup and Grade 3 Dr. Both races have risen to prominence in recent years and have become premier events for 3-year-olds of their respective genders. It is accompanied on the same card by the second biggest race at Parx, the Grade 1, $1 million Cotillion for 3-year-old fillies. The race takes place in late September and achieved Grade 1 status in 2017. The Grade 1, $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at 1 â miles for 3-year-olds is the biggest race on its calendar.
